Linux
MIPS Technologies actively supports, develops and improves the Linux kernel for the MIPS® architecture, in particular MIPS Technologies cores, the MIPS32® and MIPS64® ISAs and associated ASEs, and the MaltaTM platform. Recent enhancements have included virtual SMP support for the MT (Multi-threading) ASE.
- Supports MIPS32 and MIPS64 CPUs
- Supports all the new cores from the MIPS32 release 2 families including the 24K®, 34KTM and 74KTM families
- Development package for the Malta platform is available
- With 2.6.16 linux-mips.org has started maintaining "stable" branches for each major release, shadowing the stable branches introduced in kernel.org for 2.6.15.
- Supports big- and little-endian
MIPS Technologies contributes directly to the Linux-MIPS repository, and via that to kernel.org. Currently, the most up-to-date kernel supporting the MIPS cores are available from www.linux-mips.org.
MIPS has entered into a strategic relationship with TimeSys to distribute a version of the development system including kernel, libraries, tools and userland, for the Malta platform with a complimentary, introductory subscription to the LinuxLink service from TimeSys. The latest Malta builds information is available on the TimeSys LinuxLink website.
Complete Linux distributions for developers is also available through our partners: MontaVista and Wind River.
